From Uncertainty to Resilience: Supporting 300+ OFWs in Saudi Arabia Through Mindset Psychological Framework
In response to the heightened emotional stress experienced by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Mindset Plus Philippines, in partnership with the Migrant Workers Office/Philippines Embassy – Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, successfully convened a 90-minute virtual Mental Wellness Support Circle attended by more than 300 male and female OFWs across Saudi Arabia and nearby Gulf countries.
This timely initiative created a safe, engaging, and culturally sensitive space where OFWs were able to openly reflect on the emotional and psychological impact of living far from home during uncertain times. Discussions focused on the common signs and symptoms of stress and anxiety participants had been experiencing, including sleep disturbance, overthinking, worry for family members, irritability, fear, and difficulty concentrating.
Using the Mindset Framework the session guided participants through practical grounding exercises, fact-versus-fear reflection activities, breathing techniques, and reassurance strategies that helped them regain emotional steadiness and reduce distress. Interactive exercises such as the “Weather Check-In” and “Fact vs Fear” segments enabled participants to normalize their feelings, connect with fellow OFWs, and strengthen their sense of community support.
The initiative also reinforced access to confidential individual support and group-based wellness services, ensuring that participants who needed further assistance could continue receiving help through Mindset Plus in a safe and respectful setting.
